Spot a Rogue!
Unfortunately there are many people
out there who are delighted to take your money but will not produce the
goods. Here are a few pointers to finding a reliable, qualified
and competent test organisation.
-
Are they audited by one of the national
authorities? If not, they may not be testing to the
required standards. Do they claim to be members of the
ECA, NICEIC, NAPIT or one of the other regulatory bodies?
If so, CHECK! Search the membership database. Some
companies are claiming membership when they are not.
-
Follow up references! Let them prove their
claims!
-
Check their insurances. Do they offer a warranty?
-
How long have they been trading? This will
give you an indication of reliability and consistently good
service. Many people will set up in business
after a few hours training. This is not in itself adequate
for management of your Health and Safety requirements.
-
Do they offer discounts? BEWARE! There is a fair
and reasonable price for competent testing. If they are
offering a discount they probably want your business today and
only today. They may not be interested in a long term
professional arrangement.
-
If they don't perform who can you complain to?
The nice chap who gives a friendly service is suddenly out of
the office, but remember, if you come to TESTING SOLUTIONS we
WILL resolve a problem, and if we don't, please complain to:
The Electrical
Contractors Association
(we have tested their local offices!)
